Johnny "The Jet" wins Modified Main at I-80's Alphabet Soup Race

Abelson led the first 15 laps in the 20-lap “A” feature before a late caution allowed Beatrice racing star Johnny “The Jet” Saathoff to reel in the leader. Saathoff, a four-time modified national champion, made an outside move on the restart to take the lead and hold on for the win.
“If there hadn’t been that caution, I never would’ve caught him,” Saathoff said. “It would have been a fourth- or fifth-place finish.”
It was the second improbable win in as many nights for Saathoff, who rebounded from a breakdown in his heat race Saturday night at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway to win the “B” and “A” modified features.
